Vodafone, one of the world's largest mobile phone companies has announced that it has achieved its aim of cost savings from network supply chains and datacenter consolidation has been achieved ahead of schedule.
Addressing a technology briefing, Steve Pussey, CTO, said the company had delivered cost savings of $815 million since May 2006.
"We are ahead of our supply chain agenda and ... now we've moved on and stretched ourselves further. On datacenter consolidation again we achieved the target early," he said.
In September 2007, Vodafone announced it had completed the core piece of its European datacenter consolidation as part of plans to slash about $190 million of the mobile operator's annual IT costs.
Datacenters from Vodafone's northern European businesses have been integrated into a hub in Germany, and datacenters from the mobile operator's southern European businesses have been centralized in Italy.
The regional consolidation is expected to deliver savings of 25 percent to 30 percent to Vodafone's $612 million annual European IT spending within two to three years. The final phase will see the UK consolidate its datacenters by March 2009.
