Cloud software and Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider Virtustream has teamed up with Intel to provide managed big data analytics services based on Apache Hadoop and Hana, the in-memory database management system by SAP.
The service combines the Intel distribution for Hadoop, Virtustream’s xStream cloud management software and Virtustream’s Hana managed service. The solution’s pitch is ability to run analytics on large data sets in the cloud and at high speeds.
Boyd Davis, VP and general manager of Intel’s data center software division, said, “We are pleased to be collaborating with Virtustream on providing cloud based, enterprise class data management solutions with the Intel Distribution for Apache Hadoop together with SAP Hana.”
Capabilities will include predictive analytics and real-time analytics on large data sets. The data can include business data, social media and point-of-sale data.
As an in-memory database, Hana allows very fast reporting and analytics, while Hadoop enables users to process large sets of unstructured data.
