Vietnam’s military-backed telco Viettel has deployed an Nvidia DGX B200 system at the Hoa Lac High Tech Park in western Hanoi.
The system was commissioned by Viettel in accordance with a Vietnamese government resolution to support breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation.
First launched in March 2024, an Nvidia DGX B200 SuperPod is a cluster of eight or more DGX B200s, the sixth generation of the chipmaker’s air-cooled, traditional rack-mounted DGX design that includes eight Nvidia B200 Tensor Core GPUs and two fifth Gen Intel Xeon CPUs.
Viettel’s AI division will be directly responsible for the operation of the system, which will be used support the research and development of AI models for Vietnam. The business unit has already begun training Vietnamese large language models (LLMs) to serve national digital transformation programs, while also developing multimodal models that integrate text, images, audio, and video, and specialized AI generation models.
“The commissioning of the B200 system represents not only an investment in IT infrastructure, but also a strategic step for Viettel to develop independent and reliable AI capabilities for Vietnam,” said Nguyen Manh Quy, director of Viettel AI. “On this platform, Viettel can develop AI technologies to serve the Vietnamese people and businesses, and support the government in promoting digital transformation in a secure, efficient, and sustainable manner.”
Founded in the late 1980s as a construction firm, Viettel has since become a telco, tech manufacturer, and data center operator, and is now operated by the Vietnamese Ministry of Defence. The company’s Hoa Lac data center has more than 2,400 racks across 21,000 sqm (226,000 sq ft) of floor space, with a total capacity of 30MW.
