Data center and cloud services provider ViaWest has appointed Jason Carolan as its new chief technology officer, the company announced earlier this week.

For Carolan, this is a promotion from his previous role as ViaWest’s VP of product development. ViaWest credits him as the one responsible for the successful launch of its Kinected Cloud and Storage products.

ViaWest COO and co-founder Nancy Phillips said Carolan’s 20 years of experience in product architecture, management and technical sales was impressive. “He has contributed greatly to our success in the short time he has been with ViaWest,” she said.

Prior to joining ViaWest in 2011, Carolan’s roles included a 10-year stint as distinguished engineer at Sun, and a role of director of cloud services engineering at VMware. He holds several palents in networking, data center resource management, virtualization and security.

ViaWest provides colocation, managed services, hosting, cloud-based services and hybrid services that combine cloud with any other types of infrastructure services.

The company has data centers in Portland, Oregon, Salt Lake City, Utah, Las Vegas, Nevada, Denver, Colorado, and Dallas and Austin, Texas. The size of its raised-floor portfolio totals more than 410,000 sq ft.
