ViaWest is expanding its data center in Hillsboro, Oregon, citing growth of the market in the region and demand across “all verticals and company sizes”.
The Denver, Colorado-based company’s regional VP of sales and general manager Jim Linkous said, “Our customers at the Hillsboro Complex range from a wide spectrum of industries.”
The colocation and managed-services company is adding 25,000 sq ft of data center space, which will bring its total inventory of sellable space in Hillsboro to 50,000 sq ft. The expansion, called Hillsboro 2, will use existing electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
ViaWest was acquired by Oak Hill Capital Partners and GI Partners in 2010 and has since pursued aggressive growth both through acquisitions and through building out its own facilities.
In December 2010, for example, the company bought SingleEdge, an acquisition that added a data center in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area to its portfolio. The move was followed by launch of the first phase of the Hillsboro data center in April 2011, and the launch of a Dallas-metro data center in July 2011.
Today, ViaWest has data centers in Denver, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Portland, Las Vegas and Austin.
The company is expanding at an opportune time, when capital is widely available to established data center companies with healthy cash flow. Just last month, ViaWest announced it had secured US$65m in debt financing, which it planned to spend on expansion of its data center footprint and service portfolio.
