Denver-based data center service provider ViaWest has bought a smaller Utah competitor, gaining the company's single data center in the Salt Lake City area. The news comes about two months after ViaWest's initial entry into Utah through the acquisition of Consonus and its six data centers in the region, totaling about 100,000 sq ft of data center floor.

The acquisition of SLC-based colocation and managed services provider SingleEdge, announced Monday, brings the size of ViaWest's portfolio in the market to seven data centers, or about 115,000 sq ft of raised floor total. The SingleEdge data center is a 14,700-sq-ft facility.

ViaWest chairman and CEO Roy Dimoff said the deal was attractive because of SingeEdge's demonstrated growth and high level of customer satisfaction.

"Following the completion of our acquisition of Consonus, we felt that acquiring SingleEdge would solidify our emphasis in this region and best position ViaWest to meet the growing demand of the Utah market," he said in a statement.

ViaWest now has a total of 20 data centers in five US states, including Colorado, Texas, Utah, Nevada and Oregon.

The company's owners are Oak Hill Capital Partners and, to a smaller extent, GI Partners. The current owners bought the firm in May from a group of investors, including Trinity, Goldman Sachs and Quilvest, among others.
