The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) plans to upgrade the data center at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center outside Atlanta in North Druid Hills, Georgia.

In a presolicitation notice, the VA said that it expected construction costs to be between $20 million and $50m.

The existing data center is planned to be demolished.

The VA plans to relocate the facility and bring it in compliance with the Office of Information Technology standards "by upgrading fiber optic cables and reconfiguring it in a star topology where the data center in Building 1 serves as the centralized location and distribution point for new fiber optic backbone cabling within the building."

Architectural, electrical, and mechanical work is also expected across the broader campus. Construction is expected to take 730 calendar days.

The new data center will be used as part of the Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) Infrastructure program, a large project to shift off the VA's legacy VistA system.

The Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center provides primary care and specialty health services, including mental health services, audiology and speech, dental services, hospice, and palliative care for veterans.
