Data center wholesaler Vantage has secured the US Green Building Council’s highest-tier award in recognition of environmental friendliness of the second of three data centers at its Silicon Valley campus.
The second data center, dubbed V2, received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum award from the USGBC, Vantage announced Tuesday.
The company’s CEO Jim Trout said the facility was a highly efficient and hi8ghly engineered solution that was at the same time adoptable to customer requirements.
“It represents how Vantage is diverging further from an industry that has resisted innovation and that has forced tenants into ‘one size fits all’ products,” he said.
Vantage has completed two data centers on its Santa Clara, California, campus, and construction is ongoing for the third one. The first data center received LEED Platinum last year. The one being built currently is also a candidate for the award, according to Vantage.
LEED certification is awarded for sustainable site development, water and energy efficiency, sustainable material selection, indoor air quality, recycling and other factors.
V2 is a 9MW building, scalable to 18MW. This scaling can be done without disruption and within the same building footprint, Trout said.
The first building to come online had total capacity of 6MW, and the third one will provide a total of 13MW.
Vantage is also building a data center in Quincy, Washington, planning to complete the first 6MW phase around October.
