Finnish cloud company UpCloud has launched a new data center location in Denmark.

The company revealed today, December 16, that it would now be offering its services from a data center located near Copenhagen in Ballerup, Denmark.

The move will enable UpCloud to serve Danish customers which require data to remain within the country's boundaries, and brings UpCloud's total footprint to nine locations in Europe, including in Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, and the UK.

"We opened a data center in Denmark because it has long been an important hub for network connectivity in the Nordics and continental Europe and a center of innovation. We are delighted to be able to make this happen together with local partners like Solita," said  Arno Schäfer, CEO of UpCloud.

"Operational reliability and preparedness for disruptions are very important to our customers. That is why our Danish data center is located geographically separate from other UpCloud data centers. Our data center network in the Nordics will expand further when we open a data center in Norway in the near future."

According to UpCloud, the Denmark facility is powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

While the data center in question – nor the provider – has not been detailed, Digital Realty has a data center campus located in Ballerup, and Cibicom also operates a facility in the area. Ballerup is located around 15 kilometers from Copenhagen proper, Denmark's capital city and largest data center hub.

UpCloud was founded in 2011 and is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland. The company says it has more than 10,000 customers at present.
