The University of Michigan Board of Regents is expected to authorize the construction of a US$50.9 million data center complex for the U-M Hospitals and Health Centers, when it votes on December 13.
The proposal calls for the construction of a 47,000-square-foot building on the university's north campus that will house an 11,000-square-foot data center.
According to local press reports, the proposed project calls for a tornado-resistant building with 7,500 square feet provided for infrastructure support and 28,500 square feet provided for power, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and data infrastructure support. If approved, the project would be funded by UMHHC. Engineering firm X-nth Inc. will design the facility and produce a timetable for the construction process.
