UK data center operator Kao Data has acquired land in West London for a new development.
The company this week announced it has acquired a new site on the former Frogmore Industrial Estate in Park Royal in the London Borough of Ealing.
Acquired from Legal & General business Reassure Limited in March 2026, the 4.7-acre site is set to be developed into a new data center campus.
Full details on the planned development haven’t been shared. Kao said the data center will go live in 2029.
The company said proposals for the site will be submitted and published over the coming months as part of the formal planning process.
ReAssure Limited has previously filed to demolish the existing warehouse buildings at the Frogmore Industrial Estate in order to develop a five-story data center totaling some 35,000 sqm (376,736 sq ft) and a two-story substation. The application said the site will use on-site solar.
ReAssure had been planning a data center development at the site at least as far back as 2021, according to planning documents. However, the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation last month refused ReAssure’s reserved matters application. OPDC did say, however, it was “ready to enter into discussions with the applicant... to assist in the preparation of a new planning application.”
Kao was launched in 2015 and is owned by Infratil, Legal & General, and Goldacre. The company has a data center campus in Harlow, operates a data center in Slough, a former Barclays data center in Northolt, and is developing a new campus in Manchester.
Kao Data said its data centre portfolio includes more than 160MW of IT load, either currently operational, under development or planned.
The company is named after Sir Charles Kao, who won a Nobel Prize for physics for his creation of optical fiber cables while working at the Standard Telephone Laboratories (STL) research center in Harlow. The labs were located on the land that now hosts Kao’s data centers.
