Virgin Media Business increases Ethernet extensions
Virgin Media Business in the UK said it has increased the speed of its Ethernet extensions and high capacity services ÔÇô it can now support 40 x 10Gbit/s circuits between two sites, ensuring low latency transmission. Virgin said the upgrade means its financial services and government customers especially can now connect to multiple sites up to 35km apart.

Virgin claims to be the UK’s only telecommunications provider with a nationwide fiber optic next-generation network.

ControlCircle hires board members
UK-based managed services and hosting company ControlCircle said it has appointed two new members for its board of directors ÔÇô Richard Jones, as chairman and Bill Joss, as non-executive director. The duo will help drive ControlCircle’s cloud computing operations and virtrual technology outsourcing following a growth in capital investment of $10 million.

Jones has previously held positions at BuyingTeam, Aimselect Group and IBM and DEC following 15 years as a partner at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). Joss is currently the European managing director at ASECO Integrated Systems and chairman at Cats Solutions and was chairman at Warwick Warp, director at Evesham Technology and worked as a director at Compel Group.

Thames River Capital uses 3PAR InServ F400 in upgrade UK fund management firm
Thames River Capital and sister firm Nevsky Capital have upgraded two data centers using Inserv’s 3PAR InServ F400 Storage Server for Tier 1. The servers have been configured to back up to a third aray of InServ servers housed by hosting provider SunGard offsite.

Two Ethernet switches and two FIbre Channel switches were also added to support its VMware vSphere deployment over 63 virtual machines and 8ESX servers.
