UK hosting firm CWCS has acquired a property in Nottingham and plans to turn the site into its latest data center.

The data center is due to come online in 2024 – specifications haven’t been shared.

According to a LoopNet listing, the existing building – at 3 Padge Road, was built in 1980 and totals 9,300 sq ft (863 sqm) across two floors.

CWCS to turn this former office into a data center – CWCS

CWCS provides cloud, bare metal, dedicated servers, and colocation services. It offers services from data centers in Nottingham, Manchester, and London in the UK; and Miami, Dallas, San Francisco, and Toronto in North America.

Karl Mendez, managing director of CWCS Managed Hosting, said: “In the last three years, we have embarked on an ambitious growth strategy to expand our portfolio of services through company acquisitions. Opening a new data center in Nottingham significantly increases our capacity to offer flexible options comprising of cloud hosting, dedicated server hosting, and colocation services.”

Giles Davis, partner at chartered surveyors, Geo Hallam & Sons, acted as the agent to find the premises.

“The search to find a suitable facility was a challenging brief, given the nature of the CWCS business,” said Davis. "We looked for premises that were well-located and could be stripped back with planning permission. The building we’ve secured is an ideal canvas for CWCS to fit out with their new data center and associated offices. We wish the team every success.”

Mark Tomlinson, director at FHP, who acted for the sellers in the sale, added: “The lack of industrial freehold opportunities could have prevented CWCS from achieving its expansion. But by working with Giles Davis at Geo Hallam we’ve been able to solve the problem by putting forward a building they can repurpose, securing a sale for our client, and helping CWCS achieve its vision.”

Proximity, acquired by I Squared Capital’s nLighten last year, operates a facility in Nottingham.
