Provider turns to Bunker for National Audit Office recovery

The disaster recovery for the UK's National Audit Office (NAO) will now be held in the Bunker thanks to a deal signed by the data center operator, which operates out of an armoured military-grade hosting facility and service provider Connect Internet Solutions.

Connect Internet Solutions will provide disaster recovery for the NAO's website and underlying content management system as bespoke solution designed by the Bunker comprising a fully managed dedicated infrastructure that meets USO 27001 and PCI DDS standards.

The NAO looks after the auditing of all UK central government projects and departments.

Northeast data center receives energy rating

The Cobalt data center in Newcastle designed by Highbridge Properties has become the first in the UK's north east to receive the BREEAM Excellent rating (of 75.78 percent) for the data center at design-stage assessment, making it one of the greenest centers in the region, and in the UK.

Energy and land use, materials and pollution were all assess as part of the rating, which has only recently been extended to include the environmental performance of data centers. The center is also on track to receive a PUE rating of less than 1.3.

The developer said it believes by following BREEAM Excellent standards for the 4,262 sq m center, which has four autonomous data halls completed to shell, it can reduce data center energy use by more than half. It has a power density of up to 1,600 watts per sq m.
