Another data center development is being proposed in Pennsylvania.

As reported by the Times-Tribune and WVIA, Popca LLC has filed to develop a two-building campus in Newton Township.

The two buildings, on 76 acres of land along Newton Road, would each total 145,200 sq ft (13,490 sqm). An on-site substation is also planned.

Popca’s application was first filed in January but denied in February, according to local press, as data centers are not an allowed use in the township. The property is reportedly in Newton’s rural resource zoning district. The township zoning hearing board will hear an appeal on April 27.

Local landowner Mark Gawron is the owner of Popca LLC. Local press reports he acquired the site in 2017 from the Lackawanna County Tax Claim Bureau.

Newton Township is a township in Lackawanna County, northeast Pennsylvania.

Lackawanna County has seen a large number of data center campuses proposed in recent months. Archbald, a borough in the county, has seen five projects proposed that could total around 4.7 million sq ft (439,400 sqm) across 29 buildings at full build-out.

Local officials in Ransom Township, close to Newton, denied plans for a six-building campus earlier this year.
