Twitter has hired Adam Messinger as VP of infrastructure engineering. Messinger comes to Twitter after working for about four years as VP of development at Oracle. He is also on the advisory board of Splunk, whose product is an engine for machine data for machines within complex IT infrastructures.

In an announcement on its Twitter feed, Twitter's communications team wrote that Messinger “was doing web (engineering) before many used the Web.” Twitter representatives did not respond to a request for comment in time for publication. Messinger's professional past includes a mixture of engineering and venture-capital activities, according to his LinkedIn page.

A University of California Stanford graduate, he acted as an investor in a number of technology start-ups, including grid computing firm Popular Power and Sana, a company that describes its product as an immune system for computers. His past engineering gigs included staff engineer roles at WebLogic and BEA and a principal engineer job at Borland. Related Stories Twitter to move to dedicated data center
