Greenlandic telco provider Tusass has launched VoLTE (Voice over Long-Term Evolution) services in Greenland.

The telco noted in an announcement this week that VoLTE will enable customers' phone calls to be handled via the 4G network, instead of technologies such as 2G and 3G.

Tusass previously switched off its 3G mobile network in 2023.

"VoLTE means a significantly better experience, especially for our customers in the satellite areas, where calls on older technologies are too slow and unstable. Now it will be both easier and faster to make calls, and with better quality," said Jonas Hasselriis, deputy director and responsible for technology & infrastructure at Tusass.

Tusass stated that activation of its VoLTE service will take place between July 7 (yesterday) and July 9.

State-owned Tusass, formerly Tele-Post can trace its history back as far as 1879. The company serves around 70,000 mobile customers across Greenland.

Earlier this year, the telco broke ground on its new data center in Nuuk.
