A new data center development could be coming to a town outside London.
First reported by EssexLive, an application has been filed with the Chelmsford city council to develop a new data center campus in Essex, some 35 miles (56.3km) northeast of London.
The 66,220 sqm (712,785 sq ft) development would see two two-story hyperscale facilities built on currently greenfield land along Beaulieu Parkway in the Beaulieu Park. Each building would offer 44MW across 33,110 sqm (356,395 sq ft) of data center space.
The campus is known as Project Blackwater and BW1 in the application documents. Tritax Chelmsford PropCo Limited is listed as the applicant.
Tritax Big Box REIT is a British real estate investment trust (REIT) traditionally focused on investing in distribution centers. The London Stock Exchange-listed firm is managed by Tritax, a property management business.
The company is also looking to develop a data center campus west of London around Slough.
