Investment firm TPG Peppertree has committed up to $1 billion of investment to launch Connected Infra Group, a new telecoms tower firm which will be led by industry veteran Bernard Borghei.

Borghei co-founded Vertical Bridge, one of the biggest tower operators in the US, and has more than 30 years of experience in the sector.

It's Borghei's first role since his departure from Palistar Capital-backed Symphony Towers Infrastructure last year.

He will lead South Florida-based Connected Infra Group, a telecoms infrastructure company that will own, operate, and manage telecommunications real estate assets such as towers and other similar infrastructure across the US.

“We are pleased to partner with an accomplished executive like Bernard and the Connected Infra Group team to support the growth and expansion of their national portfolio of telecom infrastructure assets,” said Ryan Lepene, co-managing partner of TPG Peppertree.

“With a billion dollars of commitment from the TPG Peppertree team, we have launched our platform with a strong and stable financial foundation, allowing us to diligently pursue the execution of our strategic vision and plans,” said Borghei, founder, president, and CEO of Connected Infra Group.

In the company's announcement this week, Connected Infra Group also confirmed Dan Marinberg, formerly general counsel of Vertical Bridge, has joined as chief legal officer.

Further details about the newly launched infrastructure business are scarce, with the company website noting 'launching soon' on its home page.

Founded in 2004, TPG Peppertree specializes in digital infrastructure investments. At present, Peppertree has $7.9 billion in assets under management.

TPG, a private equity firm with $245bn in assets under management, acquired Peppertree Capital Management last year, rebranding it to TPG Peppertree.
