Q9 Networks Inc., a leading Canadian provider of outsourced data center infrastructure, has announced that its new Toronto data center opened on 31 January, 2007. The $20 million facility, which has a capacity of 1,000 cabinet equivalents, is the first of three major expansion projects to open.
The other projects include a second data center in Calgary and a significant expansion of the existing Brampton data center. When complete, these expansions will establish Q9 as one of the largest operators of data center facilities in Canada with a projected total capacity in excess of 7,500 cabinet equivalents. Q9 is expecting to invest a total of approximately $65 million in the new facilities.
"I am delighted to be announcing this key milestone as we successfully execute our rapid expansion strategy," said Osama Arafat, CEO, Q9 Networks. "With this opening, we are able to meet continued strong demand in the Toronto area and further consolidate our leadership position in the data center infrastructure services market. The new facility more than doubles our capacity in Toronto and provides a strong platform on which to continue building our business."
With the opening of this facility, Q9 continues to set the standard for high availability data centers in Canada. Q9 designs, builds and operates its data centers to meet the most demanding IT infrastructure requirements, including the increased power and cooling demands of today's high density computing devices. Engineered for continuous availability, Q9 data centers are equipped with redundant power and cooling systems and advanced fire protection. Extensive security measures, including video surveillance, 7x24 on-site security officers and biometric authentication systems protect each facility.
