Tieto, one of the largest data center owners and operators in the Nordics, is preparing to open a new data center in Moscow, where it plans to provide cloud-bases services at the end of June. The new IT capacity on-demand and Software-as-a-Service offerings will be available starting June 30. The announcement comes little more than one year after the company opened another data center in Russia, located in St. Petersburg.

As with a typical IT-as-a-Service offering, customers of the new Moscow facility will be able to scale virtual server and storage resources according to requirements of their applications and businesses. Other services offered are connectivity, security, back-up and restoring.

"New services in Moscow follow Tieto's strategic plan to expand in Russia," Tuomo Summanen, Tieto's country manager for Russia, said in a statement. "Tieto will operate as enterprise cloud integrator providing secure cloud services, connection to company's legacy systems and also making best public cloud services available in a safe way."

Russia is one of three key strategic markets for the Nordic data center operator. The other two are Sweden and Finland, where most of the company's about 15 data centers are located. Tieto is currently in the process of building new data centers in the Stockholm and Helsinki markets.
