New Zealand hosting company theCloud is planning to build a data center in the Waikato Innovation Park, a technology park for agriculture-related biotech companies in Hamilton, New Zealand.
theCloud provides web hosting, email, virtual servers and cloud-based storage services out of its multiple facilities around New Zealand.
The company's CEO Bruce Trevarthen said the Hamilton area was a good location for two reasons. "Not only does Hamilton have a low risk profile when it comes to natural disasters, it's also in close proximity to a high proportion of New Zealand's largest companies who are looking for off-site data storage and computing service."
Hamilton told Waikato Times the data center would be able to support up to 400 IT racks but the design had not been finalized. "We are working with partners such as Hewlett Packard and Emerson on the design," he said.
