The Datacentre Leaders' Awards, the industry's most prestigious awards were presented to the best innovators and leaders in the industry at a gala ceremony in London in December.
November: Technology: Data center automation market to hit $15 billion in two years research found. GDCM upgrades nlyte management tool. HP adds functionality to its Thermal Logic portfolio. Citrix Systems ships Netscaler to raise data center application efficiency. IBM is taking on the computational fluid dynamics market with EMEA roll out of mobile measurement solution. Eaton ships power management software and new cables. Corning's FutureCom S500 Shielded Copper RJ45 Module ships.
US: Microsoft to build 20 mega data centers - report. A report in BusinessWeek Magazine cited an un-named Microsoft staffer as saying that the company planned to build 20 mega data centers. The company did not confirm the story.
Europe MEA: Qatar Airways outsources data center operations. Nuclear fuel factory was reborn as a data center. A building in Hanau, Germany, originally designed to produce nuclear fuel was reborn as a data center.
Vodacom opens $10 million Johannesburg data center
Corporate: EU Code of Conduct launched on November 18th with the EC looking for companies to sign up and to endorse the voluntary code. Terremark reveals buy out offer in second quarter results. DatacenterDynamics Focus Magazine launches on Tuesday 11th November 2008 at DatacenterDynamics London08 Conference. Emerson calls for industry wide "energy to compute" metric for data centers. New build data center investment will rise in 2009.
UK: HSBC targets York for £300 million investment. Scotland to be location for world's first sustainable data center community. South of Scotland has been targeted as the possible site for a data center and housing community.
Asia PAC: India embarks on statewide public data center building programme. The Indian government is planning to build 27 data centers across the country. AT&T builds out internet gateway data center in Singapore.
December: UK: A four stage building project on what is being billed as the UK's largest purpose built data center is about to begin at Saunderton near High Wycombe after e-shelter bought a 50 acre brown field site in a joint venture with PFB Data Centre Fund while in Scotland a green data center planned for Inverness marina site. The winners of the Datacentre Leaders' Awards included The UK's "most energy efficient datacentre" at the Elean data campus near Cambridge which won the Future Thinking and Design Concept Award. Fujitsu won the Innovation in the Mega Datacentre Award for its London North Datacentre. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office scooped two awards, one for Innovation in the Medium Datacentre and another for Leadership in the Public Sector for the development at its Hanslope Park Facility in partnership with Hoare Lea Consulting Engineers. London City Airport's Modular Data Center in partnership with Red Vista won in the Innovation in the Micro Datacentre category. The Green Datacentre Award went to EDS in partnership with Norman Disney & Young and Houseman Henderson Architects for the SMC4 Datacentre near Sunderland. Digital Realty Trust's IBM project Paris collected the award for Innovation in an Outsourced Environment. Operational Team of the Year went to Morgan Stanley Enterprise Data Centres Group in partnership with Norland Managed Services and Redstone Converged Solutions. Greg Metcalf of ARUP was named Young Mission Critical Engineer of the Year.

Christian Belady and David Gauthier of Microsoft offered an architectural perspective on Microsoft's modularity concept. Savvis secures $50 million credit while Rackable Systems announced a plan to lease containerised data centers.

Americas: Uptime Institute founder Ken Brill Receives Prestigious Data Centre Leaders' Lifetime Achievement Award. eBay agreed to develop its next generation data center in the state of Utah while in Nova Scotia, Bastionhost bought former nuclear bunker for data center development.
