Technology: A construction and maintenance agreement (C&MA) to build the first direct, high-bandwidth optical-fibre submarine cable system from the UK to India, has been signed by 16 telecoms companies. Estimated cost for the Europe India Gateway (EIG) cable system is over US$700 million. Companies investing in the project are: AT&T; Bharti Airtel; BT; Cable & Wireless; Djibouti Telecom; Du; Gibtelecom; IAM; Libyan Post, Telecom and Information Technology Company; MTN Group Ltd; Omantel; PT Comunicacoes, S.A.; Saudi Telecom Company; Telecom Egypt; Telkom SA Ltd; and Verizon Business. It was revealed that Dell was building a datacenter container to order for a customer. Eaton Corporation announced the Power Xpert Server Solution, a way for IT managers to view and manage electrical power in their datacenters and server rooms.
US: Oracle said it would build a $285 million data center facility in Utah. Internap Network Services Corporation, a global provider of end-to-end Internet business solutions, has announced plans to add approximately 15,000 square feet of colocation at a new stand alone 45,000 square foot facility adjacent to its existing Boston datacenter. Digital Realty Trust reported research data that indicates a significant increase in the number of datacenter projects being planned by US corporations during the coming 12 months. Switch Communications Group has announced it is building a new 400,000 square foot data center in Las Vegas, Vegas which it has dubbed SuperNAP.
ASIA PAC: Singapore public sector to call more than S$1 billion worth of Infocomm tenders in FY08. Salesforce.com, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Platform- as-a-Service (PaaS provider announced that it is building its first international datacenter in Singapore.
