The following content is from an older version of this website, and may not display correctly.CyrusOne a Texas colocation provider, announced plans to add to its roster of Texas data centers by building from the ground up a new 94,000 square foot facility in Houston that will be expandable by up to 100,000 square feet.
Once complete, the Houston West campus will be CyrusOne's seventh data center and will make the company's total floor space in Texas 480,000 square feet, the company said in a statement.
The company operates two more facilities in Houston, three in Dallas and is in the process of developing one more in Austin.
The data center, located along a major Houston fiber corridor, will be able to support more than 250 watts per square foot and feature 2N power redundancy. The company expects first two pods to be fully operational by the end of 2009, CEO David Ferdman said.
Combined, the pods will provide 25,000 square feet of data center floor.
"We expect the facility to have somewhere between 20MW and 30MW of power," Ferdman said. The firm, however, avoids having to cap the amount of power available to its customers.
The new facility's robust physical security features will include "perimeter fencing, dual authentication, biometric access systems, digital closed circuit monitoring systems and 24x7 security guards." One will need to present both an access card and a fingerprint to get beyond the fence, Ferdman said. Once there, additional security features have to be passed before gaing access to the data center floor. The building is being built in an area designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to be a 500-year floodplain. The designation means that the area has a 6 percent chance of being inundated by a flood in a 30-year period of time.
