Terremark Worldwide, Inc.,a leading global operator of carrier-neutral integrated Internet Exchanges and a provider of managed IT infrastructure solutions utilizing cutting edge virtualization and utility computing technologies, has launched the NAP of the Capital Region project at a private ceremony scheduled in Washington, D.C.
As previously reported, Terremark has secured a 30-acre site located approximately 60 miles from the nation's Capital in Culpeper County, Virginia. The NAP of the Capital Region will provide state-of-the-art managed services and unparalleled security and connectivity to its customers, fulfilling the company's stated objective to expand in the Washington, D.C. area.
Terremark has designed a master plan for the site that will allow for modular growth of the campus based on customer demand. When fully built, the campus will consist of five 50 thousand square foot independent data center structures and one 72 thousand square foot secure office building. Each structure will be "bunker built" to the highest security standards and will be setback 150 feet from the campus perimeter, meeting the strictest government security guidelines. Inside each data center, a professional security staff will maintain and operate sophisticated surveillance systems, biometric scanners and secured areas for processing of staff, customers and visitors.
The campus will deliver Service Level Agreements guaranteeing 100 percent power backed by an array of electrical systems engineered to provide uninterrupted power with no single point of failure. The campus will be designed to support the power and cooling requirements of today's high density users and to allow data center operations to continue uninterrupted in the event of a regional grid failure.
This site will be directly linked to Terremark's flagship facility, the NAP of the Americas in Miami and other Terremark facilities around the globe, providing customers with access to the full range of networks and services, including the commercial sector and Federal government Network Operations Centers (NOCs), managed by professionals to ensure that all customer IT resources and networks are "always on" and "always available."
"With a global footprint of data centers across the world servicing more than 850 customers, Terremark is embarking on one of the most innovative data center construction projects in the world," said Manuel D. Medina, chairman of Terremark Worldwide, Inc. "The NAP of the Capital Region will serve to meet our existing customers' growing demand and deliver innovative solutions to the private and public sector."
The first phase of the project is scheduled to open in the June 2008 quarter.
