Less than one month after it commenced construction of a third data center at it Culpeper, Va., complex, data center services provider Terremark announced it had purchased another 27 acres of land adjacent to the campus.

The company said in a news release the new land will provide room for at least 250,000 sq ft of data center space and about 100,000 sq ft of office space at the NAP (Network Access Point) of the Capital Region.
Terremark paid $5m for the new land.

"Acquiring the land adjacent to the existing campus was a vital step in securing our position to continue meeting the strong demand for Terremark's services among federal customers and large multinational companies," company CEO Manuel Medina said in a statement.

The property, as it was before the new land acquisition, could accommodate five 50,000 sq ft data centers. Terremark has built two - the second one was launched in February - and a third one is currently under construction.

The campus also has a 72,000 sq ft administrative building.

About 65 percent of data center space at the campus, including the still-offline third pod, has been leased.

As it aims to attract federal customers at its Culpeper campus, Terremark puts a lot of emphasis on its facilities there meeting federal standards for data communications and hosting sites.

Culpeper is about 70 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.

The company provides colocation, hosting, disaster recovery and cloud-based services at NAP of the Capital Regions and its other sites.

In the US, Terremark also has data centers in Miami, Texas and California.

The company has facilities on Colombia and Brazil, as well as a number of sites around Europe.
