AI chip company Tenstorrent has acquired Blue Cheetah Analog Design, a startup building customized analog mixed-signal IP.
Financial details regarding the transaction have not been disclosed.
Founded in 2018 by Krishna Settaluri and Dr. Elad Alon, Blue Cheetah provides its chiplet interconnect IP solutions in a wide variety of foundries and process nodes, while its BlueLynx D2D interconnect subsystem IP provides physical (PHY) and link layer chiplet interfaces compatible with both Open Compute Project (OCP) Bunch of Wires (BoW), and Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express (UCIe).
Last year, Tenstorrent announced it had licensed Blue Cheetah’s die-to-die interconnect IP for its AI and RISC-V chiplet solutions and, in a statement, the chip company said acquiring Blue Cheetah will allow it to bring advanced interconnect and other analog/mixed-signal capabilities in-house.
“The acquisition further accelerates Tenstorrent’s chiplet vision of creating an open chiplet ecosystem, with open interconnects optimized for each specific chiplet socket,“ the company added.
Jim Keller, CEO of Tenstorrent, said: “Blue Cheetah shares our vision to build simple and comparable chiplet ecosystems. We’re looking forward to the next chapter of accelerating AI with open standards and high-performance IP.”
“As a customer and partner, Tenstorrent collaborated closely with Blue Cheetah to realize the full benefits of our BlueLynx technology in their chiplet products,” said Dr. Alon, CEO of Blue Cheetah. “The Blue Cheetah team looks forward to amplifying our impact by joining with Tenstorrent to provide both leading IP and chiplets/chiplet ecosystems critical to the continued progression of AI.”
Founded in 2016, Tenstorrent builds scalable artificial intelligence accelerators for both the cloud and Edge. The company completed a Series D funding round in December 2024, which saw the company valued at more than $2.6 billion. Raising $693 million, investors included Jeff Bezos' Bezos Expeditions, Samsung Securities, and AFW Partners.
