Global provider of data center services Telehouse America is bringing a new data center in Asia online at the end of the year. The new facility in Hong Kong marks a step toward an expanded focus on the cloud-computing market for the company.

Noriyuki Kita, executive VP of Telehouse, said in a statement the facility would become the company's first data center to go after the cloud-computing industry. Telehouse is in fact naming the facility "Hong Kong Cloud Computing Complex" (CCC).

"Telehouse seeks to meet marketplace demands, which in this case, targets the popularity and accelerated growth of cloud computing due to its reduced costs and capacity to meet the demands of businesses of all sizes," Kita said.

The company said it chose Hong Kong as a location for the newest facility because of the high concentration of networks in the area. Located in the island's Tseung Kwan O district, the facility will be neighboring the Hong Kong Stock Exchange data center and have strong connectivity to local cable-landing stations.

The data center ÔÇô Telehouse's 42nd around the world ÔÇô will provide about 387,500 sq ft of space. This is the third new data center Telehouse has announced this year.

It will be managed by HKColo, a data center operator Telehouse's parent company KDDI recently invested in. According to Telehouse, KDDI bought half of the company.
