KDDI owned colocation firm Telehouse Group will spend $140 m (11 billion Japanese yen) to expand its data center business in the China, Hong Kong and Taiwan markets.

The company is opening a new data center in Beijing, China, in December 2012 and at that time will expand its customer colocation space in Hong Kong.

Telecoms giant KDDI is working with web and data center services firm Sinnet to establish the joint venture in Beijing, known as Telehouse Beijing BDA Co - Both companies will operate the site.

KDDI operates four data centers in three cities in the Greater China Region, including Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The Beijing data center will be the fifth Telehouse branded data center with the total floor area of 67,000 square meters (m2) in the region.

The second Beijing data center will be a carrier-neutral facility boasting a floor area of about 25,000 sq mts located in the city’s Technological Development Area (BDA).

In addition the Hong Kong CCC facility, which opened in 2011, will be further expand by 11,500 sq mts, making it one of the largest data centers in Hong Kong.
