Telehouse America has announced plans to expand the power management capabilities and power capacity of its most popular New York data and colocation center, Broadway Center - 25B. The additions will be in place by December 2006. The enhanced power handling system increases the downtown Manhattan facility's reliability factor and increases power capacity by over 20 percent. As metro New York's power distribution grows more uncertain year by year, the changes at 25B will insure that clients and NYIIX members will have dependable, secure power availability.
The plan calls for the addition of four new UPS units to 25B's existing UPS setup. The result will be four UPS sets arranged in an N+1 configuration. If a UPS unit, in an N+1 set, exhibits a power load distribution failure, the load will transfer to its UPS mate without interruption.
"Power will continue to dominate client conversations. Moreover, new servers, built to meet exploding storage and transfer requirements mandated by regulations, point to higher energy use. We also have greater hardware to space density' ratios and rising fuel prices connected with providing power and cooling, said Masahiro Furuya, president and CEO of Telehouse America. "An extremely hot summer severely tested New York's power generation and distribution. Our clients expect us to be their safeguard in these situations. This upgrade insures that we will meet our clients' reliability expectations for years to come.
