TelecityGroup, one of Europe’s largest data center providers, whose fleet includes key interconnection hubs in London Docklands and Amsterdam, reported strong revenue growth for 2012 despite weak economy. The company grew its live data center capacity and increased revenue from existing tenant-occupied footprint during the year.
Michael Tobin, TelecityGroup CEO, said the provider had increased live capacity by 27% through both expanding existing data centers and opening new ones. “We have entered 2013 with a strong recurring revenue base and available capacity in all of our key locations,” he said.
TelecityGroup’s total live data center inventory as of the end of the year was 86MW, up from 68MW at the end of 2011. Including capacity not yet built out, the company’s “announced” inventory was 135MW as of last year’s end.
About 80% of its available capacity was occupied at the end of 2012. “While it is in a strong growth phase, the Group aims to continually bring new capacity online in response to customer demand, as its existing capacity in each market reaches full occupancy,” the company said.
TelecityGroup’s revenue per occupied square meter in 2012 was £4.531 - up 3.1% from the preceding year. It achieved the increase partially by selling more power to existing customers within their existing footprint and increasing power densities. Some of it was also due to inflation and “adverse currency movements.”
The company mentioned some economic headwinds in its earnings statement created by weakening of Euro versus Sterling.
TelecityGroup increased its annual revenue by 18% in 2012, reporting £283m in sales. Its 2011 total-sales figure was £239.8m.
The company’s full-year earnings per share for 2012 were 28.5p, up from 21.1p it reported for 2011.
One of the highlights of TelecityGroup’s aggressive 2012 expansion program was getting a strong foothold in the Finnish market through acquisitions of Academica and Tenue. These gave it 2MW of live capacity in Finland and another 7MW of capacity available for future build-out.
