A UK organization focused on reduction of carbon emissions by businesses has issued European data center service provider TelecityGroup a certification for efforts it has made to cut the amount of CO2 its operations are responsible for emitting.
The non-profit called Carbon Trust Standard Company awarded TelecityGroup with its Carbon Trust Standard certificate for successfully demonstrating carbon-efficiency improvements from January 2007 through December 2009, according to a TelecityGroup news release.
"Being certified with the Carbon Trust Standard is proof that an organization has taken genuine action to reduce its impact on climate change by cutting its carbon emissions," the trust's General Manager Harry Morrison said in a statement.
The standard is issued for two years, after which the company must prove further improvements to get re-certified.
In the same announcement, TelecityGroup also publicized its ISO 14001 certification. This is result of an environmental-management audit conducted by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance, which certified the provider across all 23 of its data centers around Europe.
The data center provider said it will continue focusing on environmental performance of its facility portfolio. It is currently focusing on developing new operational and management processes, guided by the European Union's Code of Conduct for Data Centers and The Green Grid's energy efficiency metrics.
