Bombay Stock Exchange-listed Tata Communications has set up its International Headquarters in Singapore, where it said it will also invest US$357m in data center capacity in the next four years.
The commitment includes new staff, innovation and infrastructure, according to Tata senior VP David Wirt, who was quoted by CIO India.
Last year Tata opened a data center that cost US$180m in Singapore. The Singapore TCX was used as the launch point for Tata's international cloud offering InstaCompute.
It is Tata's second Singapore data center, the first being the Tata Communications Exchange. In total it offers 72,5000 sq ft of data center space in the country.
Overall the Tata Group is valued at US$67.4bn. In Singapore alone it plans to increase its workforce by 60%, according to Tata Communications managing director and CEO Vinod Kumar.
"Strong trade and investment has made [Singapore] the most competitive Asian country today with a vibrant economy which has led to its growing business-hub status on the world map," Kumar said.
"One of the many benefits of placing our international headquarters in Singapore is access to its world-class technical and business expertise. We want to play a continued role in encouraging global innovation by employing the best local talent available, at all levels of the business."
In the CIO India report, Wirt was referenced saying storage in Singapore roughly doubles each year, and that some data center companies there were running out of space, power and cooling capacity.
