Dutch data center provider Switch says it will pass savings from energy efficiency of its new Amsterdam data center to its clients.

Switch spent two years building the facility it characterizes as "innovative hyper modern purpose-built data center". The company says the 5MW data center's cooling infrastructure "guarantees" a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.2-1.3.

Switch founder and commercial director Gregor Ship said tenants will be direct beneficiaries of this efficiency. "This lower power consumption provides a direct price advantage to customers of 25% to 30% in average compared to most data centers in Europe," he said.

Switch announced the launch of the 90,000 sq ft carrier-neutral data center in Amsterdam in late August. First phase of build-out brought online space and power for about 1,500 racks (about 44,000 sq ft).

In addition to energy efficiency, the facility's location in the southeast of Amsterdam gives it a strong connectivity advantage. According to Switch, the data center is already connected to 460 fibers by 40 different carriers.

The data center's first tenant is Internet Unie, a hosting company that took about 7,500 sq ft of space.

This is Switch's first data center. It was built by Compertius.
