Switch and Data, a leading provider of network neutral datacenters and Internet exchange services, announced today that the company has opened additional space in Vienna, VA. This project adds additional capacity to Switch and Data's existing site at 7990 Science Applications Court (SAIC) in Vienna, VA. This new capacity was built to satisfy high demand for interconnection in this key communications hub. The new site adds nearly 22,000 gross square feet of capacity to Switch and Data's existing SAIC Vienna site and is part of Switch and Data's plan to add 3,000 cabinet equivalents of product capacity in 2008.
Switch and Data's expansion is located in the heart of the Northern Virginia technology corridor. Northern Virginia is an important market for Internet datacenters, due to strong demand coming from government, Internet enterprises, system integrators and other corporate technology customers. The AeA ranks Virginia as the state with the highest concentration of tech workers in the country. Nine percent of Virginia's private sector workers are employed in the technology industry, more than in any other state. Switch and Data supports the interconnection requirements of high-tech companies by providing the broadest footprint of sites in major North American hub markets such as Dallas, Buffalo, Chicago, Miami, New York, Northern Virginia, San Francisco, Seattle, and Toronto.

Switch and Data's Vienna, Virginia site is located at the SAIC complex, home to numerous technology companies and bandwidth providers. Twenty-four fiber providers have a presence in the site. The expansion is built to Switch and Data's high-performance datacenter standard and can supply more than 200 watts per square foot of power and cooling capacity. Switch and Data also offers its PAIX(R) Internet exchange service in the Vienna site. PAIX pioneered commercial Internet exchange and provides a simple and cost effective way for Internet service providers (ISPs), telecommunications companies, and enterprises to peer their IP traffic to enhance performance and reduce cost
