A Florida man has been arrested after attempting to bomb a state radio tower.

Fox35 Orlando reported this week that the man, not yet named, was taken into custody in Brevard County after being discovered with a pipe bomb.

The incident has been described as isolated and not as an act of terrorism by the deputies.

Police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Friday (June 6) in the area of Deering Parkway Road.

As police arrived at the scene, the vehicle attempted to pull away, however, was stopped by Brevard County deputies, who searched the vehicle and discovered an explosive device that Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said was a possible pipe bomb. 

The incident led to Deering Parkway Road being closed for several hours, while officials investigated the incident. Fox35 Orlando reported that a number of units, including the bomb unit, were seen on Deering Parkway Road between Interstate 95 and US 1.

Ivey noted that the suspect was angry over employment issues and aimed to target one of the state radio towers. 

"The individual has made some statements about getting fired and things of that nature," said Ivey.

Wireless Estimator separately identified the tower as one owned by American Tower. The tower is a 340-foot communications tower and is leased to multiple tenants, including government agencies and mobile network carriers.
