Provider of software and technology services SunGard saw revenue decrease across all market verticals it targets in the fourth quarter of 2010, including financial systems, higher education, public sector and availability services.

The company reported US$1.34bn in total revenue for the quarter ÔÇô a 6% decrease year over year. SunGard's operating income was $202m, according to a news release.

Crist├│bal Conde, SunGard president and CEO, said the quarter had brought several large multi-million-dollar deals for the company.

Some of the major deals included an IT management contract with one of the largest independent educational institutions in the US Pacific Northwest;a deal to provide enterprise finance and HR applications to a county in Minnesota;and a managed-hosting and consulting services deal with a Canadian IT outsourcing firm.

"We are selling more strategically at a higher level and our wins are helping move us in a good direction," Conde said. "The tone of business is improving but somewhat unevenly and at different rates across our businesses."

One of the quarter's highlights was the sale of SunGard's public-sector operation in the UK.

SunGard reported that its full-year 2010 revenue was $4.99bn, also a 6% drop from the year before. Its full-year operating income was $268m.
