SunGard Availability Services has completed its fourth desktop technology refresh in ten years, deploying 7,400 new PCs across its UK Recovery Centres.

The move will cut desktop energy consumption by up to 45% at idle as the power supplies on the new machines are more power efficient than standard industry units, the company said.

"We have invested in our technical infrastructure to deliver a virtualised recovery capability that seamlessly integrates with our physical Workplace Recovery service," said Keith Tilley, managing director UK and executive vice president Europe for SunGard Availability Services.

"If you cannot deliver corporate IT services all the way to the desktop, then clearly, the benefits of having disaster recovery in place may not be achieved," commented Martin Atherton, service director, Freeform Dynamics.

The refresh encompasses quad core PCs that manage virtualised desktop images.
