Technology-services firm SunGard has added a new suite of products and services for companies playing in automated energy and commodities trading markets.

The vendor’s Fame energy and commodities solution suite comprises of Energy Web, EnergyServer and Energy Managed Data Services. Customers can deploy individual components of it or the entire suite.

SunGard’s aim is to help customers control cost and enter new markets while meeting internal and external compliance requirements. The company said there was increasing internal and regulatory pressure on energy and commodities traders to track all pricing, profit and loss components throughout the day.

These demands are reportedly increasing operational costs, while requiring companies to centralize and audit market-data repositories. SunGard’s Fame Energy provides a standardized approach to tracking all changes made to market data over time.

The solution provides web-based, desktop charting and analysis capabilities for energy trading, market analysis and risk management. It can be hosted either at a SunGard data center or on customers’ premises.

Leslie Barbagallo, chief operating officer for SunGard’s energy and commodities business, said in a statement that customers needed centralized data repositories, entitlement and metering to meet obligations and control costs.

"In addition, commodities market data participants need solutions designed for commodities markets, with time series capabilities, intrinsic understanding of the difference between a barrel of oil and a megawatt of power, and a forward view on what will trade next," Barbagallo added.

The new Fame EnergyServer helps companies develop and test trading models and manage risk of their automated-trading strategies.
