US data center wholesaler Stream has kicked off construction of a greenfield data center in a master-planned community near Houston, Texas.
The company expects the data center to be ready for tenants to move in April 2013. Stream is pitching it either for a single-tenant use or for use by three tenants of three separate equal-size data halls.
The construction site is in Woodlands, located about 35 miles north of Houston. Gil Staley, of the Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, said the community had been a destination for many corporate expansions and relocations.
“Stream Data Centers’ new private data center development will give these companies a purpose-built option in which to house their growing IT infrastructure locally,” Staley said.
Companies with corporate facilities in Woodlands include Anadarko, Fox Sports, McKesson Specialty Health and Aon Hewitt Associates.
Houston area is a major hub for energy companies. Additionally, it has robust presence of healthcare and aeronautical industries.
The facility will provide a total of 3.375MW of critical load, with potential to expand to 6.75MW. Stream says there will be 30,000 sq ft of raised floor, with all the necessary conduits and pads for electrical infrastructure.
The data center will have 2N electrical and N+1 mechanical configurations.
If the facility ends up being leased out in separate private suites, each suite will provide 10,000 sq ft of raised floor, private disaster-recovery office space, private telecom rooms, its own utility yard and 1,125KW of critical load.
This is the company’s fifth data center development in Texas in the last four years.
