Strong winds have felled a 275-foot cell tower in Lincoln County, South Dakota, this week.

Lincoln County's Sheriff's Office confirmed in a post on social media on Tuesday (July 29) morning that the tower was destroyed.

AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile all provide services via the cell tower, which Wireless Estimator reports is owned by SBA Communications.

The tower is located between 472nd Ave & 291st St, Lincoln County, located off of 29140 County Highway 117, near Beresford.

Work is underway to restore services to the site via a temporary fix.

Local reports noted that winds of 90 mph caused widespread damage in Lincoln County, with trees uprooted and property damaged. No fatalities were reported.

It's not uncommon for storms to cause disruption to telecommunications infrastructure.

One such instance last year saw two radio towers knocked down by 90mph winds near Charleston, West Virginia.
