Brazilian steel producer CSN has launched a modular data center at its Presidente Vargas plant in Rio de Janeiro.

First reported in BN Americas, the installation is set to boost the company’s automation processes.

The project was carried out by Gemelo Data Centers, a Brazilian modular data center company.

In a statement to the publication, CSN said: “The initiative aims to address recurring issues of unexpected server outages that have compromised automation infrastructure, resulting in losses.”

Specifications of the project have not been shared.

Prior to the project, CSN had been operating its plant with 65 decentralized servers. The new installation is expected to be more secure, reliable, and efficient than the former method.

Gemelo was founded in 2005 and has specialized in modular and prefabricated data center builds. The company has developed projects for Bradesco and Diveo, as well as an outdoor installation for Brasil Terminal Portuario.

Gemelo has also created data center projects for local government units.

Founded in 1941, CSN is Brazil’s largest steel producer. The firm is currently headed up by Benjamin Steinbruch and produces a range of steel products, including slabs and galvanized steel, for the automotive, mining, and construction industries.

Earlier this year, the company said it had reached a non-binding agreement to sell a stake of up to 11 percent in its mining unit to Japan’s Itochu Corporation.
