Plans to convert a derelict manufacturing mill in Fall River, Massachusetts have been put before council leaders.
A proposal for a 120,000 square foot datacenter has been submitted by local real estate operators Roland Patenaude and Karen Charette.
Consuming 20MW, the facility will be largest consumer of energy in the area with an electrical demand the equivalent of 15,000 homes.

According to Patenaude, retrofitting will take at least 18 months if zoning permission is granted, based on a use variance. This variance includes construction of a communication tower and two wind turbine generators, which could reduce electricity demand by 25 per cent.
According to local media, under Global Properties LLC, Patenuade and Charette have negotiated a 50-year lease for the mill building owned by Highland Real Estate. Reconstruction and leasing of the building would be in four 30,000 square-foot stages until it was at maximum capacity.
