Data center company Stargate Holdings Corp, has announced the addition of a flywheel-stored motion system to back up power in its new high-density facility in Oak Brook, Illinois.
"Stargate is committed to the extraction, rather than mass cooling, of heat expelled into its new data center," says Stargate CEO G. Gary Chaffin. "The use of leading-edge Flywheel Technology to support critical loads traditionally provided by conventional battery UPS systems, maintains the company's responsible and unique design approach to green technology.
"The Flywheel system is a safe, low maintenance, environmentally friendly alternative to large and inefficient UPS battery banks," says Chaffin. "It increases reliability for the end-user while dramatically reducing operating expenses. The economic and environmental costs of battery replacement in terms of energy loss and caustic contaminants renders the fast power ride-through and instant response of Inductive Flywheel Systems the perfect solution in an ever growing power-rich and high-performance data center such as Stargate's."
Stargate's Tier III+ data center in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, which features 2,700 tons of cooling and six diesel generators in 86,000 square feet, has already been selected by several major companies for their server colocation needs.
