Bitcoin mining firm Sphere 3D has signed co-mining agreements with Bitdeer Technologies Group covering 30MW of capacity across three of Sphere 3D’s data center sites in Tennessee and Kentucky.

Under the agreements, Bitdeer will deploy its Sealminer A2 Pro Air mining hardware at the sites, with the two companies sharing net mining proceeds. The agreements each have an initial one-year term and can be renewed for a further year unless either party chooses not to extend. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sphere 3D said the arrangement would allow it to generate Bitcoin mining revenue from available power capacity while it continues evaluating longer-term digital infrastructure opportunities, including potential AI and high-performance computing deployments.

“We are focused on building a platform that can respond to where digital infrastructure demand is going, while making practical use of the assets we control today,” said Joel Block, CEO of Sphere 3D.

“This agreement allows us to put 30MW of capacity to work with a leading public company in the sector, generate current mining economics, and preserve flexibility as we continue evaluating AI and high-performance compute opportunities across our sites,” added Block.

Sphere 3D said the agreements are part of its strategy to put available power capacity to work with established counterparties while maintaining optionality across the digital infrastructure market. The company noted it is continuing to review its sites based on power availability, interconnection profile, operating requirements, capital needs, counterparty demand, and technical feasibility.

The announcement follows Sphere 3D’s business combination with Cathedra Bitcoin, which closed in June 2026. Following the deal, Sphere 3D said it operates around 53MW of power capacity across multiple US data center locations and has a development pipeline exceeding 100MW of potential expansion opportunities.

Sphere 3D has increasingly positioned itself as a broader digital infrastructure company rather than a pure Bitcoin miner. Earlier in June, the company engaged EA Advisors as a strategic advisor to support its AI and HPC strategy, including technical assessments of site configurations and potential conversion of existing infrastructure to support next-generation compute workloads.

On June 30, Sphere 3D also announced plans to change its name to DarkHorse Technologies Inc., subject to shareholder approval, and said it had reserved the Nasdaq ticker “DRK.”

The company said the proposed name reflects its strategy of building modular AI and HPC infrastructure at powered sites that may be overlooked by the traditional hyperscale development pipeline.
