Telefonica, the leading telecom carrier in the Spanish-Portuguese speaking market has announced it is expanding its Barracas, Argentina data center in response to the growth of the computer science technology and telecommunications market.
The company will invest a total of ARS$30 million in extending the facility, of which $20 million has already been allocated to expanding the new center to 5,500ft┬▓ from its previous 3,500ft┬▓ capacity. The extension covers three floors. The first stage of the project has been completed, whilst the second stage is expected to be completed next year as the company gains further service contracts.
Overall, the extension will allow Telefonica to increase its server numbers as it seeks to provide collocation, centralized storage, security and other hosting services, and to realize year-on-year growth of 30 percent.
