A South African technology company that made its mark in the data center industry last year with a new containerized data center has created a hybrid power system which combines solar, wind and diesel -generated power.
 
South African businesses have suffered downtime due to power outages for years, and while the country is currently working to increase capacity and upgrade infrastructure, businesses today are still being affected by problems with power.
 
The T-Cube FreeGrid, designed by Telenetix, has been designed to limit or reduce the amount of grid power a data center requires, with remote locations such as rural communities in developing countries in mind.
 
The modular power solution comes with solar panels, wind turbines and diesel generators, all connected through a central power management system which acts  as a seamless interface between the power sources, battery storage banks and energy users.
 
It can also plug into grid power if it is required.
 
“The battery banks allow autonomous operation by compensating for the difference between power production and used when needed,” Telenetix said.
 
“Once the batteries go below a predetermined level of charge, the controller will initiate the backup power source to ensure that irrespective of the status of the renewable energy source you will never run out of electricity.”
 
Telenetix said the solution can provide 2.5kW of one-phase power to 18Kw of three-phase power at nominal load, 5.25Kw of power by solar arrays and three days autonomy at nominal load.
 
It also comes with monitoring and measuring tools so you can troubleshoot and take a real-time view of how the power system is running and conduct analysis.
 
Last year Telenetix released its T-Cube containerized data center, which has since been exported to Perth.
