Soluna has signed a deal with Siemens to develop a 2MW pilot project to determine power management challenges for AI computing at renewable energy sites.
The companies signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to develop the project. It is set to be deployed at Soluna’s Project Grace site in Texas and aims to validate a behind-the-meter approach for managing the rapid power demand fluctuations typical of GPU-driven AI workloads when directly powered by renewable energy.
"One of the biggest challenges to scaling AI technology is the amount of compute power it demands," said John Belizaire, CEO of Soluna.
According to the companies, the project will integrate Siemens’ electrical infrastructure, controls, and monitoring systems via a structured commissioning process. Through this, the companies aim to document performance under variable compute demand conditions in order to create a repeatable blueprint for future behind-the-meter deployments.
Siemens will equip the facility with electrical and mechanical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and power converters. It will also utilize Siemens SICAM SCADA platform for monitoring and control.

Soluna is a cryptocurrency mining firm that utilizes renewable energy projects as its primary power source. The company has a total operational capacity of 123MW and 11 data center sites in various stages of development. This includes Project Sophie, Project Dorothy 1 & 2, Project Kati 1, Project Grace, Project Rosa, Project Hedy, Project Ellen, and Project Annie. The company claims a long-term pipeline totaling 19 projects and up to 2.8GW of capacity.
