Argentine digital infrastructure company SkyOnline has signed an agreement with YPF Luz to supply renewable energy to most of its data centers in Buenos Aires, in a move that reinforces the growing adoption of clean energy sources in the data center sector in Latin America.

The contract provides for the supply of approximately 7,200 MWh annually over a three-year period, a volume that will cover nearly 85 percent of the company’s data center electricity demand.

The electricity procured will come from two renewable energy projects operated by YPF Luz in Argentina. One is the General Levalle wind farm, located in the province of Córdoba, with an installed capacity of 155MW. The other is the El Quemado solar farm, located in Mendoza, which will reach a total capacity of 305MW and is already partly operational.

SkyOnline operates a carrier-neutral data center in downtown Buenos Aires that provides colocation and cloud services to businesses across the country.

Its CEO Rafael Ibañez noted that the adoption of clean energy sources represents a concrete step within the company’s sustainability strategy and emphasized that digital transformation must be accompanied by an energy transition that allows for reduced emissions without compromising infrastructure availability.
